My services include:
Having been in this business since 1986, I’ve written (or tweaked) copy for almost every product and service you can think of. My research work gives me a broad understanding of local and global issues; my life experience has given me insights into the psychology of most audiences so I can choose the most relevant tone of voice and information.
I approach the copywriting from a marketing perspective; we don’t have that many words to play with so each one needs to work hard.
If your forté is PR or web copy, but you need a more detailed account of your client’s business, I can help. Give me the basic story and I will craft it for you.
My friend and colleague, Kate Toon – Copywriter is a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) guru. If you want your website to work harder, contact her. If, on the other hand, you’d like to learn about doing your own copywriting, check out her copywriting courses at The Clever Copywriting School.

- Do you know when to use ‘compliment’ and when to use ‘complement’?
- Have you ever used ‘effect’ when you should have used ‘affect’?
- Are you confident with your use of ‘its’ and ‘it’s’?
- That menu in French – are you sure that you have all your masculine and feminine nouns correct?
If not, you need me.
Get another pair of eyes. It’s hard to check your own copy when you’ve read it ten times. From an agency perspective, it’s useful to be able to tell your client that “the proofreader recommended this“.
As a guideline, I charge $60 an hour, reducing to $55 an hour if you give me more than 10 hours of work a month.
A 6-page, copy-heavy brochure, for example, will take me about 30 minutes (minimum charge).
What’s wrong with the following sentence?
“As a member of our exclusive club, we’d like to offer you a bonus.”
- The above is a classic case of a dangling participle: the subject does not agree with the supporting clause. The sentence should read:
“As you are a member of our exclusive club, we’d like to offer you a bonus.”
It’s very easy to get carried away with your message but be unaware that you’ve used ‘5’ and ‘five’ or ‘percent’ and ‘%’, for example. Those pesky terms and conditions can be tricky, too. Is there any duplication of a term or condition? Do you need a privacy clause? Are all the products named correctly? Do you need permit numbers for your competition? Have you written ‘Complete’ when you should have written ‘Compete’? (Are you sure?)
Let me check your copy for grammatical errors, consistency and, more importantly, sense.

Do you have the time to skim up to 60 websites for new products, new services, trends and anomalies every month? I assist a Williams Inference associate by providing what I believe to be the most interesting trends or anomalies I find while making a disciplined search of at least 20 websites and publications every week.
